Innocent Lakshmi

   In the story Sold,so far I have notice how Lakshmi is being told all these lies.Her "Aunt" isn't telling her that she's going to a horrible place where she is going to suffer.All these horrible things are happening to her all because she wanted to feed her family.She just wanted to help out but instead she get's her self in to a mess.Lakshmi is just a poor innocent little girl who's going to the city but there's these selfish people who don't care about her who only want money.Throughout her adventure to the city she's being told all these lies and she's suffering.Lakshmi is figuring out that going to the city wasn't such a good idea.It wasn't her fall though everyone was manipulating her into thinking going to the city was a good thing,she's innocent. 
    One way Lakshmi is innocent is because Lakshmi's Uncle Husband forced her to say (pg78) that he was her uncle husband.When who knows? maybe the border police was going to help her,so that she wouldn't be where she is now.Her uncle husband was just manipulating her by giving her sweets and basically treating her like an animal everytime she does as he says.For example,I know this because (pg80) Lakshmi says "A man in baggy trousers twist the tail of his water buffalo to make him go faster,uncle husband presses his fist into my back to make me go faster". The author is showing that uncle husband was comparing her in to an animal.Lakshmi is getting treated like an animal and doesn't even realize it.
  Another way Lakshmi is innocent is because she was basically poisoned with a drink called lassi (pg119). This drink froze her arms and legs,and so now she can't protest.Lakshmi was raped and she couldn't even defend herself she had to suffer.Who would do such a thing? Can you imagine you being torchered like this?. Mumtaz forces her to drink lassi so that she can be the men.All Lakshmi wanted was to help her family but in return what does she get?Suffering,Sadness,and homesickness.
   All in all I cant believe what girl like Lakshmi has to do to help her family out.Some of them didn't even know they were going to have to do this.It disappoints me to know that girls a being manipulated into being used as sex slaves.It's just sick to know that people like Mumtaz and Lakshmi's stepfather don't care what there doing.There so selfish they only want money they don't care how much the others suffer.Hopefully People realize what there doing to these poor little girls.Ripping there hearts away each time there being used.
